About Me

I'm Mary, a married mother of two and, at the moment, a stay-at-home mom. I enjoy reading and writing (mostly creatively), watching movies, cuddling my babies, and having good times with friends, usually over a nice chilled glass of Sauvignon Blanc.

I, I suppose along with many others, became a Food Network junkie in the early 2000s, and the rest is history. I've cooked more and more as the years have passed. Cooking is truly the one part of homemaking that I love. I don't sew, I don't iron, I barely keep up with the laundry, and don't even ask to look at the underside of my bathroom's toilet seat (ignorance is bliss). But I love, love, love me some cooking. If I say, "I don't feel like cooking tonight," I've either had a baby, I'm so ill I'm physically incapable of keeping any food down, or an alien has taken over my body.

I'm admittedly not the best cook out there, but my family seems pretty pleased with what I do. I, like so many others, am a normal, busy mother, wife, and social networking enthusiast. Food is important, but it's not the most important thing. And I'm still learning, self-teaching mostly.

What this blog is about, and what I want people to understand, is that any parent can provide his or her family with healthy, delicious, and simple meals every night. With a little preparation, organization, and dedication, any family can participate in one of the (unfortunately) disappearing phenoms of the institution of the family: the healthy, delicious sit-down meal. We all know that food brings people together, but I believe food, perhaps more than any other thing, can bring a family together.

Right now, we are a family of four. Though our littlest isn't quite to the point of eating table food, I'm writing the recipes for tables of four, since the average family size these days is about four. I take into account proper portion sizes and, when I can, will provide nutritive information for my recipes. Making more food is always easier than making less, so, if needed, adapt the recipe sizes for your family's needs.

I also want to provide families with practical advice to making these essential healthy sit-down meals possible in their busy daily lives, as well as any other seeming impediments, be they picky eaters, limited monetary resources, or overeating disorders. Every family deserves a delicious, healthy, sit-down meal. But more than that, every family deserves the pleasure of each other's company, to sit down, communicate, and laugh, even if it's only for thirty minutes a day.

  1. Hi Mary,
I'm Joey's cousin (I'm not sure how far removed, but a far enough we don't keep in touch as we should) I believe you and I met at the farm before you two got married. My mother (Mary Phillips/Graham) forwarded me your blog and I LOVE it!! I am a bit of a blog and social media enthusiast myself. I love a good blog, but I have a soft spot for cooking. Actually at one point I tried to start a cooking/life blog, but struggled to be consistent. I just wanted to tell you thank you, hello and I look forward to reading your fabulous recipe ideas!!
